How to spend one day in Brisbane

Working onboard of a cruise ship has both sides of a story. It is absolutely amazing to see so many places and countries in such a short period. But then again, that is exactly the downside of it, the short period. It often means you only get to spend one day in a great place. If you’re part of the crew, that is even when you are lucky and get some time off.

In Brisbane, is where I got some luck. Because I got my lunch off in this amazing Australian city. That meant, after breakfast, I could leave the ship and return when it was time do work dinner service.

Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

Once I got off the ship, me and two other colleagues found our way to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. I had never seen a koala or a kangaroo in real life before (I live in Europe. I have cows in my country. Just saying). Let alone held one in my hands before. The Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is the world’s first and largest koala sanctuary. This sanctuary has a wide range of Australian wildlife, where you can also hand-feed kangaroos or hold an actual koala (girl’s dream ever since my dad gave me the stuffed animal). Another cool thing: they also have Tasmanian devils. One of those animals once almost bit into my father’s arm. Or it could be one of dad’s cool stories, but as a little girl, of course, I believed him.

Shopping streets of Brisbane

Since being on a ship doesn’t give you a lot of freedom, doing some shopping is what makes every crew member happy. The Queen Street Mall, Edward Street, Elizabeth Street and Adelaide Street is where to go to, to spend your money. So I did. Luxury designers, small boutiques, clothes, interior, I don’t care, I just want to spend money.

Surfing in Brisbane

Do you have more time in Brisbane than me? Brisbane is known for its excellent surfing locations. Since I like surfing a lot, I was a little bit bumped I couldn’t do that. The more reason to come back here. Another cool thing to do is kayaking to the nearby islands. Not just regular kayaking, I am talking about night kayaking. Or swimming with manta rays!

There are so many cool things to do in Brisbane and unfortunately, I only have a half-day here. If you are looking for more things to do, have a look at the Visit Brisbane website.

I should really come back here, so if you have more tips for me from your own experience, don’t hesitate to comment!
